SPIRIT team visited Sereni fries on 30th June 2016. Sereni fries is a small-medium sized company dealing in fresh cut potatoes meant for frying into French fries. The company processes up to seven tonnes of fresh cuts daily and delivers to cafeterias and hotels who use them for French fries. The proprietors of the company have managed to fill the gap and help eliminate problems of managing bulkiness of the tubers by small hotels. SPIRIT team was taken took the visitors through the process and challenges faced by the company. Among major challenges was lack of adequate quality raw chipping varieties, though, they currently use Jelly variety that is limited in supply. Another major challenge is the high cost of processing equipment as well inadequate capital to expand the business. Among the East African Countries, this concept is only found in Kenya and hence possible to imitate by other countries.
