The Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology admit students in there PHD Programmes Throughout an academic year, in these academic year 2019-2020 we admitted Five PhD students in r various programmes i.e PhD Food Science and Technology , Applied Human Nutrition and Food Safety and Quality.
In the thiird year of study the FND students go for Supervised experience in health facilities (equivalent of level 4 and above calibre) employing dieticians at which each student are placed for eight weeks to practice hospital based patients’ diets, diet and food therapy in disease treatment including nutrition pharmacology and acquire skills in management of hospital/patients’ and therapeutic diets.
In the fourth year of study the BSc. FND students are be expected to conduct a research in an area relevant to Human Nutrition and write a report for presentation in a seminar. This was done on March 13, 2020 for the current class . The course coordinator is Prof. Wambui Kogi-Makau.
Dr. Patrick Kamau Njage is a Biostatistician working as a microbial Genomic Epidemiologist at the National Food Institute , Technical University of Denmark. He hold a 3 day workshop from February 10 -14 2020, at the Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology . All postgraduate student in the Department attended the workshop.
A field trip reinforcing lecture concepts of the course AFN 313: Community Health Nutrition was held at the Cheer up organization based in Kihati village, Kijabe ward, Lari sub-county, Kiambu. Cheer UP Program (CUP) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) under the auspices of Christian Church International.
The Msc. Applied Human Nutrition Students invited their lecturers for a party celebrating completion of their 2 year course work, this class has the highest number of International students in the History of ANP. The lecturers who attended were Prof. Wambui Kogi-Makau, Dr. Sophia Ngala, Dr. Angela Andago and Dr. Dasel Kaindi
Dr. Jeff Wamiti was among the Graduands of the university of Nairobi, 62nd Graduation Ceremony. Dr. Wamiti Graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Applied Human Nutrition. He was among many other students from the department who graduated with Masters and Bachelors degrees
Staff and students having a session with Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) representatives in the department during their recent visit to Kenya. IFT is a global organization that partners with organizations and institutions towards advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system.
