NAIROBI INNOVATION WEEK 2026

During the 2026 Nairobi Innovation Week, held under the theme “Youth-Driven Solutions for a Sustainable Future,” students from the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology joined other innovators in showcasing their innovative products and solutions.

University of Nairobi Installs Eng. Prof. Ayub N. Gitau as 9th Vice-Chancellor

The University of Nairobi has formally installed Eng. Prof. Ayub N. Gitau as its 9th Vice-Chancellor.

The Installation Ceremony was held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Taifa Hall, Main Campus, The colourful ceremony marked a significant milestone in the history of the University and was conducted in accordance with the University's statutes, traditions, and established protocols.

Student Recognized During World Food Safety Day Competition

The Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology is proud to celebrate the achievement of Mr. Peter Wambasi, a fourth-year student, who was recognized during the World Food Safety Day Competition organized by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

STUDENTS RECOGNITION & AWARDS CEREMONY

The University of Nairobi proudly honored its outstanding scholars during the 2024/2025 Students’ Recognition and Awards Ceremony. The event celebrated achievements across both academic excellence and extracurricular activities, showcasing the diverse talents and dedication of the university community.

Dr. Isaac Muuo Maitha, a staff member and PhD student from the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology, who received the prestigious award for Best Student for producing the Best Thesis.

TREE PLANTING APRIL 2026

In line with the presidential directive to increase tree planting, the University of Nairobi has embraced this initiative by organizing tree-planting activities every rainy season. As part of this commitment, the university held a tree-planting event on 2nd April 2026 at the Field Station, CAVS. Members of the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology participated in the exercise, led by the Chair, Dr. Dasel Kaindi.

Official Launch of GCMS Equipment under the “Food Leader” Project in the Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology

The University of Nairobi marked a significant milestone with the official launch of advanced GC/MS equipment under the “Food Leader” project, titled “Empowering Tomorrow’s Food Security Leaders: Strengthening Higher Education Capacity for Sustainable Food Systems in Kenya and Mozambique.”

The launch was presided over by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Research and Innovation, Shaukat Abdulrazak. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Leonida Kerubo.

The Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Technology recently held a practical session for the core course Food Nutrition and Dietetics, during which students prepared and presented therapeutic meals for patients with various health conditions.
