Following the EMS ISO 14001:2015 Implementers training held in Nairobi under Switch Africa Green Project titled, ‘Inclusive Green Horticulture Processing Sector in Kenya’, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the University of Nairobi defined the criteria for selection MSMEs, to be trained on EMS Internal Audit in readiness for Environmental management systems (EMS) certification.
The Kisumu training covered MSMEs from the Western region of the country particularly the lake region. Selected MSMEs were trained while a few were unable to attend the training. Both theoretical and practical lessons were learnt in line with the program of the training. Hands on approach on preparation of audit plan and audit report was paramount. Additionally, the participants were able to role play in the final days on how to conduct and write an audit report and non-conformities.
Objectives of the training
The objectives of this course was to;
- Gain knowledge on the principles, terminologies and the audit process
- Gain knowledge on Risk based approach in Audit process
- Acquire the skills of EMS Auditing
- Be able to plan, conduct and report audits based on the ISO 14001:2015
