UON STAFF AWARDS CEREMONY

The Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Technology has been recognized as the best teaching department in the entire university. This remarkable achievement, marking them as both the best teaching department and overall winner, was widely celebrated. The award was presented to Prof. G.O. Abong' who has recently concluded his tenure as department chairman, and Dr. Dasel Mulwa Kaindi , who has just begun his term as chairman.

PASSING ON OF DR. JEFF WAMITI MUTHUI ( PhD)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Jeff Wamiti Muthui, a lecturer in the Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Technology. A specialist in Clinical and Sports Nutrition, Dr. Jeff Wamiti Muthui will be deeply missed as a friend, teacher, scientist, colleague, and mentor.

PhD Student Featured on Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety Website

Abdiaziz Beina PhD student a PhD Student form the Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology  has been prominently featured on the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety website. We are incredibly proud of Abdiaziz accomplishments and the recognition he is receiving for his dedication to advancing food safety He is being Supervised by Prof . VISIT TO DFSNT BY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN AND MERU UNIVERSITY RESEARCHERS

Researchers from University College Dublin and Meru University accompanied by CUE representatives visited the department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology .Fostering a collaborative spirit among the participating institutions. The discussions were productive, emphasizing potential partnerships and collaborative research opportunities among the three universities. 

All parties expressed a strong interest in forming a partnership that could enhance research capabilities and academic exchange.

NAIROBI INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR 2024

The Chairman of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Prof. G.O. Abong, who also serves as the Chairman of the University of Nairobi Show Committee, recently attended the Nairobi International Trade Fair. We are proud to announce that the University of Nairobi won several awards at the event, including the prestigious Best Stand Award presented by the Deputy President, with the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi present to receive it.

BIOSAFETY LEVEL-2 FACILITY APPROVAL

The University of Nairobi Medical Microbiology and Immunology Review Board assessed laboratories in the Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology and The Department of Public Health Pharmacology and Toxicology  in compliance to ISO. They inspected microbiological laboratory for analysis of pathogens (salmonella and camploybacter).

THE GREAT MILLET QUEST COMPETITION

The winners and runners up  of the Great Millet Quest Competition  were students from the Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology Pursuing  BSc. Food Science and Technology and BSc. Food Nutrition and Dietetics respectively . The Department is proud of its students of having produced such brilliant Innovators. Click  

 

 

 

 

DFSNT CULTURAL DAY

The Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology held its first cultural day event on Tuesday 28, May 2024 within the Department. Staff and students cooked various dishes from different communities in Kenya and show cased in a very colourful event. Most staff were dressed in traditional attires. Traditional songs were played and everyone present enjoyed.
