The University of Nairobi through the SAP project established a food processing hub at the Department of Food Science and Technology fully equipped with small scale mango processing equipment and machines. The facility serves as a training centre on mango value addition to students, farmer groups, youths and interested micro small and medium enterprises interested on mango value addition. The inaugural batch of trainees of 60 participants comprising of farmers, agro-processors, agri-prenuers and students undertaking agricultural and food science degrees were offered both theoretical and practical standardized processing of mangoes with the department playing a key role in knowledge transfer through the facility.
