Mr. Gekonge Duke is currently in his final year Ph. D studies under the fruits and vegetables for all seasons project (FruVaSe) at the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology. Mr. Gekonge's research is on natural guava processing and focuses on developing affordable fruit processing techniques that can be adopted at the household levels to produce commercially viable, safe and nutritious processed local guava to tackle malnutrition as well as improve guava farmers’ livelihoods. He is a passionate food scientist interested in food processing and preservation, food safety, quality, postharvest handling technologies, food risk assessment, and research. He is also an experienced value-addition expert, a lead trainer, and consultant in postharvest innovations for fruits and vegetable processing to reduce food loss and waste besides research interests in the processing of local neglected and underutilized crops.
