PHD IN FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY

    Overview

    The goal of the programme is to train food safety and quality specialists with well-developed competencies in the broad field but with a focus on specific areas and especially the ability to carry out high-quality research, train other tertiary institutions, to be innovative creators of food safety management systems of food industries and value addition of local foods, to improve food safety, food/nutrition security and wellbeing of the population.

     

     

     

    1. ADMISSION REGULATIONS

    The common regulations for the Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Nairobi shall apply.

      1. Minimum admission requirements
        1. Holders of a Master's degree in Food Safety and Quality and related sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the Senate. The candidate must have a relevant bachelor's degree.
        2. The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
        3. The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, a summary of the proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan, and key references.
        4. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must produce evidence of proficiency in spoken and written English language.
      2. Credit transfer and exemptions

    There shall be no credit transfer and exemptions in the programme.

    Philosophy, Rationale

    The philosophy of the programme is to provide quality education and training in food safety and quality, among other fields. The Department strongly believes in the importance of creation, preservation, integration, transmission, and utilization of food safety and quality knowledge, strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship, and improvement of food safety and quality management systems
