HORTIGREEN PROJECT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION (SCP), GREEN FINANCING AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS DIAKONIA RESORT KABONDO, HOMA BAY, 15TH NOVEMBER 2019

The workshop was held at the Diakonia Resort Conference Center Hall. The session began at 9:00 a.m. led by Dr. George Abong’ who is the coordinator of the project from the University of Nairobi. Formal introductions were done by the participants to the project team thereafter, the participants were briefed on the workshop materials. The training focused on the following:

Following the EMS ISO 14001:2015 Implementers training held in Nairobi under Switch Africa Green Project titled, ‘Inclusive Green Horticulture Processing Sector in Kenya’, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the University of Nairobi defined the criteria for selection MSMEs, to be trained on EMS Internal Audit in readiness for Environmental management systems (EMS) certification.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN APPLIED HUMAN NUTRITION

The Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology has been offering the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Human Nutrition by research and thesis since 1990s.  Candidates choose their research topics in any of the specialized areas of nutrition assessment, clinical management of nutritional diseases, interventions for reducing nutritional disorders, food safety, and therapeutic/supplementary foods, dietetics, among other topical areas.
