The University of Nairobi 69th Graduation Ceremony

The university of Nairobi 69th Graduation Ceremony was held on September 22, 2023. The department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology had a total of 71 graduands who graduated from the different courses offered at the Department . The Chairman of the Department Prof. G.O. Abong' attended the graduation ceremony and congratulated all the students for the achievement. 

67th Graduation Ceremony - University of Nairobi

The 67th Graduation Ceremony for the University of Nairobi was held today September 23, 2022. in the Taifa Hall. The Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology   produced a total number of  65 Graduands. PhD 3, MSC 9 and BSC 53. congratulations to all our graduands..  Dr. G.O. Abong' the Chairman of the Department had the honour to bear the mace and lead the procession of the top Management of the University of Nairobi 

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI 64TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

 The UNiversity of Nairobi 64th  Graduation Ceremony was held on Friday December 11, 2020 Virtualy. The Department of Food Science and Nuttion had a total of 50 graduands from its various courses offered in both MSc and BSc Programmes. MSc. Applied HUman Nutrition 6, MSc. in Food Safety and Quality 5, MSc. in Food Science and Technology , BSc. Food Nutrition and Technology 18, and BSc.  Food Science and Technology 20.

DFSNT GRADUANDS

In the 63rd Graduation ceremony of the University of Nairobi, The Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology produced a total of 40 students. Three PhD students  namely :-Dr. Caroline Wakuthie Muthike , Dr. Erick Otieno Ogumo and Dr. Joseph Honore Nguetti ,Twelve MSc. Students and Twenty Five BSc Students. 

THERE IS NEED TO REDUCE SODIUM SALT CONSUMPTION IN YOUR DIET

WHO gives 5g of salt per day as the recommended salt intake by consumers? However, most people consume 9-12g which is on the higher side. Sodium salt consumption has been linked to high blood pressure and hence the need to reduce the consumption of salt by adopting strategies such as less salt inclusion in the diet, avoiding addition of salt while at the table and among other customized methods. Legislation on manufactured food that require clear labelling could help in this goal.

Online Teaching and Examinations Consultative Meeting

The Chairman of the Department of Food Science Nutrition  Dr. G.O. Abong' held consultative meetings with all classreps on Monday June 15, 2020,  PhD and MSc. Students on June 16, 2020 . The agenda of the meeting was   online teaching and examinations, progress reporting , publications and conferences among many others. The virtual meetings were interactive and all views, comments and suggestions were recorded  and a report will be done on the same. Dr.

MSc. PROJECT PROPOSAL PRESENTATION

MSc. students pursuing Food Safety and Quality and Applied Human Nutrition as part of there curriculum they are supposed to do a Research on selected topics, original in nature, and relevant to Food safety and Applied Nutrition.  The topic is selected with the help of supervisors.  The student carries  out research and finally compile the results in a dissertation. The first years academic year 2019/2019  did there project proposal on May 22, 2020 online . The course coordinator is Prof.
