DFSNT staff participated in the NITF 2023

Staff from the Department of Food Science Nutrition ant Technology showcased their products at the Nairobi  International Trade fair. Dr. Lucy Njue, Dr. Caroline Muthike and Mr. Isaac  Maitha . The products Displayed were  Novel applications of garlic extracts in Agriculture , Food Industry , Health and Cosmetics  and Development of Degradable food packaging biofilm from cassava starch

Nairobi International Trade Fair 2023

The Nairobi International Trade Fair 2023 was held from September 25, 2023 to October 1, 2023. Prof. G.O. Abong'  the chairman Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology ., was the chair of the University of Nairobi  show Committee. The show team performed very well in different categories that they received many Trophies from the H.E. The  President Dr. William Ruto 

The University of Nairobi 69th Graduation Ceremony

The university of Nairobi 69th Graduation Ceremony was held on September 22, 2023. The department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology had a total of 71 graduands who graduated from the different courses offered at the Department . The Chairman of the Department Prof. G.O. Abong' attended the graduation ceremony and congratulated all the students for the achievement. 

Ground breaking ceremony for Agricultural Technology Innovation Center

Join us as we usher in the new dawn of cutting edge agricultural innovations during the ground-breaking ceremony for the Agricultural Technology and Innovation Centre (ATIC) at Upper Kabete Campus is set for Tuesday, 25th July. This milestone is part of our collaboration with Elgon Kenya, aimed at fostering innovation and advancing Kenya's agricultural sector. ATIC will nurture promising innovations and empower students, farmers, and entrepreneurs.

EMERGING FOOD SAFETY ISSUES IN AFRICA & GLOBALLY.

Poor quality and unsafe agricultural and processed food products are some of the most critical issues in Africa’s quest to provide adequate, nutritious and safe food to its growing population. They also negatively affect the continent’s ability to boost consumer health and hinder the realisations and growth of local, regional and international trade – making the continent one of the most vulnerable to hunger, food-borne illnesses and death, trade restrictions, and loss of economic and social potential.

UON STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARDS

The University of Nairobi awarded over 800 outstanding students in academic, talent, research and publications, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility, Leadership, Volunteerism and  Sports and Games through an award ceremony which was held on  Friday, May 5, 2023 in Taifa Hall.

HOSTING CCFH USA DELEGATION IN KENYA

On April 10-13, 2023, The Kenya National Codex Committee (NCCK) welcomed the delegation from the USA who are the current chair of the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH54). Their visit was to confirm and validate the possible meeting venues for the CCFH54 that is scheduled for 10-16 March 2024 in Nairobi. Kenya is co-hosting this meeting for the 1st time in Africa and the NCCK is mandated to work closely with the team from the USA to realize this activity. Prof.
