NATIONAL CODEX -KEBS BREAKFAST MEEETING

KEBS organized a breakfast meeting between the National Codex Contact point and Accounting officers of National Codex Committee Members on 2nd March 2023 at Weston hotel. In attendance were five Principal Secretaries (PS agriculture, PS Industry, PS investment, PS ministry of Health and PS trade), Vice Chancellors of Universities and CEOs of food safety industry. They emphasized the need for proper coordination between relevant agencies to ensure that Kenyan Food safety standards are competitive globally.

A FOODADVICE ACCELERATIONPROGRAM

The above program was launched on Friday, 27th January, 2023 at the 844 Building Hall, Faculty of Agriculture, Upper Kabete Campus, University of Nairobi. The event was hosted by Prof. Catherine Kunyanga, Coordinator, Food Security Center (FSC) and was officially opened by Prof Julius Ogeng’o, Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Academic Affairs. The officiation launch was also attended by Prof. Mary Kinoti, Director, Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO) and Prof. Moses Nyangito, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture.

DFSNT CACTUS WINES PRODUCTS FEATURE ON CITIZEN TV’S MADE IN KENYA SHOW

The Chairman of the Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology  Dr George Abong’ and Dr. Duke Gekonge were featured on Citizen Tv’s Made in Kenya show on October 17, 2022 for their innovative small scale processing techniques of the invasive and neglected Prickly Cactus pear fruit (Opuntia species) for commercialization and empowerment of the ASAL communities through Pera Foods. Pera Foods, a startup incubated by the Department, is the brainchild of Dr.

67th Graduation Ceremony - University of Nairobi

The 67th Graduation Ceremony for the University of Nairobi was held today September 23, 2022. in the Taifa Hall. The Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology   produced a total number of  65 Graduands. PhD 3, MSC 9 and BSC 53. congratulations to all our graduands..  Dr. G.O. Abong' the Chairman of the Department had the honour to bear the mace and lead the procession of the top Management of the University of Nairobi

The Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology (DFSNT) is one of the leading Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi. The Department is located off Kapenguria Road, 15 Kms to the Northwest of the Nairobi Central Business District. DFSNT degree programmes have evolved from one to six; both in undergraduate and postgraduate with a certificate level course in Food Safety and Quality.

Israel Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Amb. Michael Lotem calls for more collaboration in Agriculture

The new Israel Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Amb. Michael Lotem has called for collaboration in Agriculture and other disciplines between Israeli universities and the University of Nairobi. The Ambassador promised to spearhead the collaboration between the two universities in various fields of mutual interest. The ambassador called on the collaboration on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, when he paid a courtesy call on the UoN Vice-Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama. Medicine was the other field the ambassador noted the need to create more lasting collaborations, noting that most of the Israeli universities have a full ecosystem where the universities are interlinked with corporations and work as one, a concept he said UoN would learn and implement. Some of the other areas that the ambassador called for intense collaboration include Social sciences and Religious studies. On his part, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the collaboration initiatives proposed by the Ambassador, He said, ``The University of Nairobi is the leading and oldest University in Kenya and has played a key role in the development of all the sectors in Kenya’s economy and the globe at large”. The VC emphasized the University's commitment to producing employable graduates as part of its Mandate. The VC also thanked the Isreal ambassador for their continued support to the University’s agricultural students for the 11-month Advanced Agricultural Training at the Arava International Center for Agriculture Training (AICAT) stating that most of the students who have benefited from the program in the past have evolved into agripreneurs and others absorbed by Israeli companies as well as county Governments in Kenya. Currently there are fifty students in Israel from UoN.

Connect effectively with your Library - 8th Library Open Day & Academic Integrity week

The Library has organized its 8th Library Open Day & Academic Integrity week from 20th to 22nd April 2022. The theme of the event is “Connect effectively with your Library”. Library Open Day and Academic Integrity Week is an annual event that aims at endearing all library customers to library resources and services. Library Open Day and Academic Integrity event gives the Library an opportunity to interact with stakeholders by means of discussions and presentations. The event will create awareness of the library services and highlight the importance of academic integrity to students, staff and external stakeholders in support of the University of Nairobi’s mission on research output. Library Open Day and Academic Integrity event will be held virtually and will present an immeasurable opportunity for library customers to acquire knowledge and acquaint themselves with emerging trends in information access and use. The following are the objectives of the event: i. To showcase and create awareness of the library resources and services ii. To enhance  skills on access to information resources and services in the blended environment iii. To create awareness on academic integrity among students, staff, and the stakeholders iv.
