Call for Scholarships (Cohort 3) - Kyungdong University Global Campus, South Korea (September 2022 Intake)

Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) wishes to announce the 3rd cohort call for applications for undergraduate Scholarships to study at Kyungdong University, South Korea, commencing in September 2022 for study of Bachelor’s degree in Smart Computing, Hotel Management and Business Administration.    A total of thirty (30) scholarships are available and each EAC Partner State is entitled to five (5) scholarships. Details of the scholarships and application procedure are in the attached Call. IUCEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kyungdong University Global Campus with the eventual goal of promoting sustainable development through training of qualified middle-level professional manpower in East Africa. Call for applications - Research Fellow, the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS)

The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is seeking an outstanding candidate for the position of Research Fellow to work in the Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security (AFNS) and Climate Resilient Economy (CRE) Programs. ACTS is a pioneering development research think tank on harnessing applications of science, technology, and innovation policies for sustainable development in Africa. ACTS is an Intergovernmental organization founded in 1988 to pursue policy-oriented research towards strengthening the capacity of African countries and institutions to harness science and technology for sustainable development. The successful candidate will work under the AFNS and CRE programs in implementing on-going research projects and supporting the acquisition of new projects. Applicants should have at least MSc or preferably a Ph.D. in Agricultural related fields such, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Agriculture and/or Food Science or closely related fields with interest and application on climate resilience issues. Food Quality Management and Food Loss/Waste Reduction in Home-Grown Meals Programme Workshop-Kajiado, December 7, 2021

The workshop brought together stakeholders from Kajiado to discuss pertinent matters on the subject and was led by Dr. Abong, Prof. Ambuko and Prof. Mburu from the faculty of Agriculture. The key issues included identifying key stakeholders and map how the school meals programmes are currently managed, look at drivers and barriers and how the local solutions may be enhanced.

CONNECTING KARURUMO MANGO PROCESSORS WITH EMBU COUNTY

The University of Nairobi through the Departments of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology and Plant Science and crop protection have been supporting local groups to add value to fruits and vegetables including mango. Karurumo group has been funded through efforts of University activities lead by Prof. Jane Ambuko while Dr. G. Abong has been instrumental to ensure proper quality of processed products.

DFSNT Students Win Top Awards at the African Union’s Postharvest Conference (3rd AAPHCE)

The recently concluded 3rd All Africa Postharvest Congress and Exhibition (https://aaphce.com/), which was hosted by the African Union Commission and held from September 13 to 16th 2021, has seen two awards return to the department. The department was well represented, with two of our students standing out as top presenters. We congratulate them on their accomplishments and awards.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI PRIZE GIVING DAY

The Department celebrates the achievement of Ndeme Judith Katumbi who emerged 1st in the whole faculty of agriculture among the 5 departments during the academic year 2017/2018 in the just concluded prize giving day. This auspicious occasion is meant to identify talents and encourage the current group of students to focus and work hard for a better tomorrow.
